The Kaipara Harbour is said to be the largest natural harbor in the southern hemisphere, but shipping long ago abandoned it as a port because the harbor entrance was notoriously unsafe and claimed many wrecks. Earlier this month, French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said he was seeking another extension to the state of emergency put in place after the deadly Paris attacks past year. One source said a caretaker had contacted the police after freeing herself after being bound and gagged by the suspect.
