IPhone X bug causes touch problems in cold weather

Settings on Apples new iPhones

"After several seconds the screen will become fully responsive again", Apple said in a statement.

Apple has acknowledged there's an issue with some of its latest smartphones freezing in cold weather, but says it's a fixable issue that will be solved via a software update.

Just a week after the iPhone X officially hit the shelves, customers have begun reporting problems with the $999 device's responsiveness in cold temperatures.

'It literally takes 2 seconds from going inside to the cold outdoors and my screen stops being very responsive. "It's very noticeable. Is anyone else having this problem?", Reddit user darus214 wrote. Some also came up with a possible explanation saying that the effect that light had on infrared camera and light sensor for FaceID authentication on the front may be the reason behind it. Still, as users in the Reddit thread note, and as this blogger can anecdotally attest, using an iPhone outside in the winter usually isn't a problem.

The company has announced it will try to fix the issue in an upcoming software update following reports that phones become unresponsive as soon as they are taken outside. On Thursday, Apple had released iOS 11.1.1, an update that addresses an autocorrect bug that caused "i" to correct "A [?]" on some devices.

But, in many cases, it appears the issue is occurring even when users are within the right temperature range.

Possibly, the unresponsive screen issue results due to a rapid change in temperature and once it is stabilized, the screen starts to respond again.

The issue emerged when people updated their phones to version 11.1 of the iOS operating system.
