Struggling West Ham fires Bilic, lines up Moyes as new coach

Moyes hungry to show he is right man for West Ham

While it seems very much like David Moyes being appointed as the new manager of West Ham is the worst kept secret in football, the man himself is remaining tight-lipped, and that's despite the best efforts of Richard Keys and Andy Gray.

He has effectively been named as West Ham's interim manager after Slaven Bilic was dismissed on Monday morning, but the Scot takes over knowing that there is a strong possibility of being offered a two-year contract if he saves the club from relegation.

Moyes has been out of management since he resigned from Sunderland at the end of last season, having failed to save them from relegation.

"We believe David is the right man to turn things around and get the best out of the players at the club", joint chairman David Sullivan said.

Bilic was hired in June 2015 and guided West Ham, a team he also played for, to a seventh-place finish in his first season with its highest number of points (62) and goals in a Premier League.

The 54-year-old Moyes has taken charge of 499 games in the Premier League, most during a successful spell with Everton from 2002-13.

"I think we've got a good squad".

"I'm really looking forward to meeting the supporters, being in the stadium with them", he said. "He is highly regarded and respected within the game, and will bring fresh ideas, organization and enthusiasm".

He added: "We've done a contract which suits both parties, we are all comfortable with it. Let's get the job done and then talk at the end of the year".

The good news for David Moyes is that he has just under two weeks to prepare for his first game, at Watford after the worldwide break.

West Ham now find themselves 18th in the Premier League table after 11 games of the season.

Moyes was announced as West Ham's new manager earlier today, in an appointment which has not gone down well at the London Stadium.
