Carter Page Coordinated Russia Trip With Top Trump Campaign Officials

Donald Trump's continued denials of Russian collusion

Page's comments provide the latest confirmed contacts between members of the Trump campaign and Russians during the presidential race.

Eighty-six percent approve of the job he is doing; 66 percent approve of how he's handling the Russia investigation; only 42 percent say Russian interference is a crisis or major problem; and 75 percent think Trump didn't know about the contacts with pro-Russian operatives.

Sessions appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee during the former Alabama senator's confirmation hearing for attorney general.

Papadopoulos also told his superiors on the campaign that he was being offered "dirt" on Democratic rival Hillary Clinton and "off the record" meetings with Russian leaders - which, according to court documents, he was encouraged to pursue.

J.D. Gordon, a former Trump campaign foreign policy adviser who was at the March 2016 meeting, told Reuters that Papadopoulos indeed "made a pitch for meeting with Putin".

Page's July 2016 trip to Moscow drew attention during the campaign, particularly after WikiLeaks released emails that had been hacked from the Democratic National Committee a few weeks later and Russian Federation became a controversial campaign topic. "The White House has said over and over again they have no desire to be able to push him out", Lankford said.

The two men had a brief interaction at the commencement ceremony, where Dvorkovich also spoke, Page said.

In numerous public interviews, Page has always denied he met with other Russian officials, notably with Igor Sechin, a Putin associate. Their conversation, he told investigators, was not about coordination with Russian Federation on the campaign, but largely limited to an exchange of pleasantries.

Paul Manafort, the indicted former campaign chairman for President Donald Trump, says he's worth $28 million.

When asked if he had a private meeting with Dvorkovich on that second trip, Page replied: "We did - he stopped by a dinner I went to in December with people from the university".

The House panel's top Democrat, Rep. Adam Schiff of California, cited a memo Page sent campaign officials that quoted Page as writing "in a private conversation, Dvorkovich expressed strong support for Mr. Trump and a desire to work together toward devising better solutions in response to the vast range of current global problems".

But prosecutors said they needed an independent appraisal of that Fifth Avenue property, since Manafort was claiming a fair-market value of the unit that appeared to exceed other outside estimates. Sessions has recused himself from Russian matters as head of the Justice Department because he was a top policy adviser during the Trump campaign.

The idea that the Trump campaign coordinated with Russian operatives to hack into and disseminate Democrats' emails has been a core theory of the collusion allegation.
