Pentagon: Ground Invasion the Only Way to Destroy North Korea Nukes

Independent Alliance TD John Halligan and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un

Mr McMaster said President Trump would urge countries with the most influence over Pyongyang to "convince its leaders that the pursuit of nuclear weapons is a dead end" and that it must denuclearise.

"I think it's expected we'll meet with Putin, yeah". "The regime continues development of its unlawful weapons programs including its illegal nuclear tests and outrageous launches of ballistic missiles directly over Japanese territory are a threat to the civilized world and worldwide peace and stability".

Recent drills over South Korea by two United States strategic bombers have further raised tensions.

"Some people said that my rhetoric is very strong, but look what's happened with very weak rhetoric over the last 25 years, look where we are right now", he added.

The US administration is considering putting North Korea back on the list of state sponsors of terrorism amid growing demands from several US senators, who had mandated a congressional deadline for the State Department to take a decision. As soon as he set foot on the Yokota Air Base west of Tokyo, Japan, the president made his primary agenda behind his visit clear.

"Amid rising tensions between Washington and Pyongyang, the letter notes the difficulty of establishing the "'best- or worst-case casualty scenarios'" should war break out with North Korea, given the proximity of South Korean capital Seoul to the de-militarised zone and uncertainty over how much warning the USA would have of a North Korean attack. "We know they have missiles capable of firing 4,000 to 6,000 miles, probably with a payload of half a ton, so half a ton of VX in those missiles could kill tens of thousands of people, and they could do that now, so that is a genuine concern". "It was not pleasant for them, was it?" roared Trump.

He told reporters on Air Force One en route to Asia that North Korea would figure prominently in discussions during the trip.

Tensions have soared over North Korea's nuclear and missile programs in recent months, goaded by Trump and Pyongyang leader Kim Jong-Un's fiery exchanges of insults and warnings of conflict. "The only and one way for checking his rash act is to tame him with absolute physical power", KCNA's report said.

Trump is the first US president to pay a state visit to South Korea in 25 years.

Renegotiating South Korea's bilateral free trade agreement with the USA, dubbed KORUS, is likely be high on the agenda during the Trump-Moon summit. "Then its regret is too late".

North and South Korea are technically still in a state of conflict since the Korean War ended in an armistice, rather than a peace treaty, in 1953. Trump has criticized the deal as a source of the US trade deficit with South Korea, an argument officials there dismiss.

A hint at a military option or crude insults directed at Kim - like the term "Little Rocket Man" he previously used to deride the young North Korean dictator - is certain to enrage North Korea, which could react with weapons tests and threats of war.
