Starbucks' new holiday cups are DIY-style

Rejoice, Starbucks-Lovers! Red Cups and Holiday Drinks Are Officially Back!

The holiday-heavy promotional campaign for the new seasonal cups seems to be in direct correlation to the backlash Starbucks received when its overly-simplistic design in 2015 was deemed not festive enough by customers.

This year the cups feature splashes of red and green amid illustrations of presents, snowflakes and a Christmas tree with star on top. Starbucks' holiday cups returned to stores on Wednesday, November 1 - and for the first time ever, they aren't red.

With all of the empty space, you can DIY the hell out of the cup and make your own adorable creation.

According to the Starbucks press release the company has marked the arrival of the holidays with specially designed red cups since 1997, becoming a symbol itself of the season. Or how about last year's green cups, which were replaced by red cups that came in 13 different designs, proving that the coffee chain heard our screams about being boring and went in the complete opposite direction?

Starbucks' holiday cups are back.

For the first time, the design isn't red.

And it is no question that the cups have been quite the source of coffee-cup controversy. Starbucks will also stock most of its retail location with colored pencils for customers to use.

"This year's cup is intentionally created to encourage our customers to add their own color and illustrations", said Starbucks creative director Leanne Fremar in a press release.

Cup sleeves for hot beverages are designed with the words "Give Good", this year's holiday theme. "Giving good can be as small as someone opening the door for you, or recognizing the people that enrich your life".
