LEGO Ideas Women of NASA launches this November

Lego Ideas Lego announced on Wednesday that it's releasing a

Based on a suggestion from a fan, the set features Ride, astronaut Mae Jemison (the first African-American woman in space), astronomer Nancy Grace Roman, and computer scientist Margaret Hamilton, as well as accessories that showcase their contributions throughout five decades of the US space agency's history.

Four of the most incredible and pioneering women of Nasa are being celebrated with their very own Lego sets, the toy company has revealed today. Rounding out the list is Nancy Grace Roman, who helped bring the vision of the Hubble Space Telescope to life.

Lego has just given us our first look at its Women of NASA set - and it's the flawless celebration of some of America's trailblazing female scientists and astronauts.

Hamilton developed onboard software for the Apollo missions with NASA during the 60s. Katherine Johnson, the physicist and mathematician featured in Hidden Figures, was part of the set's original lineup announced in February but had to be taken out of the final product.

MIT News deputy editor Maia Weinstock proposed the idea on the company's Ideas platform previous year, which quickly garnered the support of a minimum of 10,000 signatures necessary to get the project approved by LEGO.

The set features four women who all worked with NASA in various roles, like astronaut, developer and astronomer.

The set will be available to purchase on 1st November, though it will be available at a one-off event on 28th October in the 5th Avenue Lego Store in NY.

Lego is honoring the women of Hidden Figures while releasing its latest product created to foster interest in STEM careers.

A few more images of the set are below, and be sure to pick one up for yourself in November - there's truly no better way to unwind than with the combination of female empowerment and a good ol' Lego set. "With this project, I wanted to spotlight a fantastic group of women who have made seminal contributions to NASA history".
