Ford Recalls 1.3 Million F-150s in North America

2017 Ford F-150

Ford is recalling about 1.3 million 2015-17 F-150 and 2017 Super Duty vehicles in North America because of potential door problems.

The issue in vehicles affected by this recall is that a frozen door latch or a bent or kinked actuation cable may result in a door that will not open or will not close.

Reuters reported that Ford has recalled over 5 million vehicles since 2016 that had issues with door latches - and that a spokeswoman for the company said customers with affected vehicles will hear from the company next month.

Even if customers are able to open and close the door, that latch may not fully engage, meaning the door could fling open while driving, Ford warned.

Dealers can fix the problem with the vehicles, Ford wrote, by installing water shields over the latches and repairing the damaged actuation cables.

The affected models include some of the model year 2015, 2016 and 2017 F-150's, as well as some 2017 Super Duty pickups.

The F-150 is the best-selling vehicle in the United States and has been for decades.

The F-Series pickups are huge profit drivers for Ford and are usually the best-selling vehicles in the U.S. every year.

The Center for Auto Safety, a nonprofit group founded by Ralph Nader, on Monday called on Ford to recall more than 1 million Explorer SUVs for alleged risk of carbon-monoxide poisoning. It shares were flat at $12.20.
