Samsung launches NB-IoT GPS smart tag ‘Connect

Samsung Connect Tag can provide you with the tracking of your valuable things.

It also works with Samsung's SmartThings ecosystem to enable some cool, futuristic experiences. Samsung says that the new smart tag is the first ever consumer mobile device to use narrowband network technology (NB-IoT), a cellular communication standard which only uses a small amount of data, has a low power consumption rate and has the ability to securely connect online for location services. The device offers smart location notifications on a NB-IoT or Cat.M1 network to help a user conveniently see how far their belonging is. It has an on-demand feature by which you can request any Connect Tag's location when desired, by pressing a button on the smartphone. Samsung Connect Tag, the company said, has also been created to ensure that parents never have to worry about the whereabouts of a toddler in the house.

Samsung says that the Connect Tag works with GPS, Wi-Fi-based position and Cell ID to receive accurate location data both indoors and outside. Apart from this, it has a "send my location" function will send their current location to the user and also has periodic location notifications to keep a track by maintaining a location record. It measures just 1.19cms (0.47 inches) thick and 4.21cm (1.66 inches) wide, which means it can be easily clipped onto objects using the included carabiner.

The Tag itself is compact, measuring 42.1mm x 11.9mm and has full IP68 water- and dustproofing. The device comes with a geo-fence feature that will notify the user's chosen smart devices when he or she approaches. The tiny gadget will be shown at San Francisco's Moscone Center on October 17th and 18th, while sales will first start in Korea before expanding to other markets over the next few months. Samsung made it waterproof and dustproof along with a reliable battery backup that it can last for a week on a single charging.
