Arsene Wenger blasts 'scandalous' penalty decision after Arsenal's loss at Watford

Watford 2-1 Arsenal – All The Goals And Best Bits Posted by Daniel Jenkins

Silva's Watford side have had a surprisingly good start to the season as they now sit in fourth place on the Premier League table.

It could be a deflection device as well, because nearly every pundit has said that penalty decision was harsh, so while Deeney may have loved his role as straight talker, was he really being completely honest or just having an easy pop at Wenger and Arsenal after his team got lucky?

Watford's Richarlison wins a penalty against Hector Bellerin - does he dive? Whenever I play against Arsenal - and this is just a personal thing - I go up and think "let me whack the first one, then we will see who wants it".

Speaking with BT Sport after the game, Deeney was asked to comment on what he thought of the penalty after Hector Bellerin had stated that it was not a penalty at all.

"

"I have to watch what I say, but there's a reason for the loss and it wasn't because of one penalty."

".

"For me, as a player, I just think happy days".

'He missed it and they were like "oh, we'll get another one".

"I came on today and jumped up with (Per) Mertesacker. That's my strength. If you're going to let me do my strength against you, you're going to have a tough afternoon".

Fit-again Mesut Ozil missed a splendid opportunity just before the penalty award - a "naive" piece of finishing in Deeney's eyes.

'It's ruthlessness. I think it starts from behind them, if they would have missed it when you boys [Martin Keown] were playing, you'd be like "hey, finish that". At the end of the day they scored.

"Of course the players know that it is important to have the humility to understand what type of team we'll play against".
