Feinstein Announces She Will Run For Re-Election In 2018

Feinstein running for reelection next year

Should Feinstein, a Democrat, win and remain in her seat through 2021, she would become the longest-serving senator in California history, passing Hiram Johnson, who served 28 years starting in 1917.

"It's not likely to heal if Dianne Feinstein runs for re-election", he said, adding, "it's time to get some new blood in there - some new, more progressive blood".

"But not let Dianne Feinstein, which is what she wants to do, turn this all into some Christmas tree on the Hill where she brings all her anti-gun circus, she's been trying to do for years, into this", he continued. She will be seeking her fifth full term - she won a special election in 1992 to fill out the term of then-Sen.

Feinstein has been showing all of the signs of another run in 2018, holding fundraisers and town hall meetings, and remaining an integral figure in Congress on gun-control and through her judiciary and intelligence committee posts.

The issue of gun violence surged to the fore last week after a shooter in Las Vegas slaughtered 58 people and injured almost 500 more with high-powered semi-automatic rifles.

Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., who heads the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs committee, said Sunday he would be willing to support bump stock restrictions either by fiat or by a new law. The devices were found on several of the weapons in the assailant's Las Vegas hotel room. The remark resulted in so much Democratic backlash that she issued a clarification about being "under no illusion" about Trump. Feinstein, for one, has been targeted by the Golden State's far-left members who have attacked her for not being liberal enough.

The mere implication that Trump could be a "good president" drew the ire of state Senate president Kevin de León, whose recent two-day trip to Washington was seen as laying the groundwork for a potential Senate run. Harris, for instance, moved quickly to say she "strongly" supports Feinstein's reelection campaign.
