Bob Corker's retirement announcement Tuesday, retired National Football League quarterback Peyton Manning's name quickly entered the conversation.

In an interview, the senator said Manning told him he is enjoying the private sector too much to run for the position.

"We have not had any political discussions with Peyton Manning", Scott Golden, the Tennessee Republican Party chairman, told USA Today. Bob Corker, a Republican, announced the would not seek re-election. Lamar Alexander's seat if Alexander chooses to retire in 2020, according to Joe Perticone of Business Insider.

DesJarlais also floated the name of Tennessee Rep. Marsha Blackburn, a Republican, as a potential candidate for Corker's seat due to her "strong conservative voice".

Shortly after Corker's announcement, Republican Rep. Scott DesJarlais suggested that Manning could be the right fit to take his place, in an interview with Business Insider.

"Is it possible? I think it's possible", the Tennessee lawmaker responded to a question about a Manning candidacy.

In March, while speaking at the Adobe Summit in Las Vegas, Manning addressed previous rumors of his involvement in politics.

"After much thought, consideration and family discussion over the past year, Elizabeth and I have decided that I will leave the United States Senate when my term expires at the end of 2018", Corker said in a Tuesday statement. "I have no interest in the political world, but would like to continue serving communities". Is it likely? I don't know.
