Cincinnati native joins cast of 'Saturday Night Live'

Heidi Gardner, Luke Null and Chris Redd will be making their way to the Big Apple after making their way through the notoriously hard casting process for the show, headed up by creator and head producer Lorne Michaels.

After cast members Bobby Moynihan, Vanessa Bayer, and Sasheer Zamata left Saturday Night Live last season, the sketch show has filled their spots with three new featured players: Chris Redd, Heidi Gardner and Luke Null. But perhaps more importantly, Redd was a scene stealing presence in last year's sadly overlooked but brilliant mockumentary Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.

Null is a fresher face who has been seen on the iO stage with the team Artemis and also appeared in the Annoyance Theatre's 2016 show "The Dead Boy Scout Musical".

Gardner also writes on Supermansion, which should help her in the fast-paced world of SNL, where often times new cast members need to write sketches for themselves in order to ensure a decent amount of time on air. It might also help that Gardner has a role in the upcoming comedy Life of the Party, which stars Melissa McCarthy, a favorite host of SNL and an alum of The Groundlings as well.

A Cincinnati native, Null is a longtime vet of the Chicago comedy scene, formerly performing in the Newport Hounds comedy group. Check out the season premiere promo below!

Null, who is from OH, according to Vulture, does not have a major TV or film credit, but he has been writing and performing at Chicago's iO Theater.

Ten days ago, it earned the venerable late-night show 9 Emmy awards - the most for any program - including Variety Sketch Series.

Along with hiring three new cast members, the series will be adding a string of new writers including Sam Jay, Gary Richardson, Erik Marino, Andrew Dismukes, Steven Castillo, Claire Friedman and Nimesh Patal.
