One person was killed and 13 others injured in a grenade explosion at Jehangir Chowk near high court premises here on Thursday evening.

The militant hurled a hand grenade at a passing vehicle of the CRPF in the Jehangir Chowk area which exploded on the road, injuring him and five other passers-by, SSP Srinagar Imtiaz Parray said.

Later, one seriously injured civilian succumbed to injuries at the Srinagar hospital. The security forces have cordoned off the area.

A police officer said that the attack took place at 5.00 am in the morning and it appears that the security personnel posted in the Jahangir Chowk area were on target.

The blast triggered panic as people were seen fleeing away from the spot.

On July 15, a CRPF officer was injured when militants carried out a grenade attack in Kulgam district of south Kashmir, a police official said.

The police official further said that all the injured are doing fine and their condition was stable. He said the grenade blast left Assistant Sub-Inspector Rajinder Singh injured, as per PTI.
