11 Iowa soldiers, 2 helicopters to be part of Harvey relief effort

The Arkansas National Guard is made up of about 9,000 soldiers, with roughly 7,000 Army guardsmen and 2,000 Air Force guardsman, Phillips said.

The Guard's 1-76th Wing deployed 14 para-rescuers and combat rescue officers from the 2-12th Rescue Squadron.

The two Chinook helicopters will leave Friday from St. Cloud and head for Texas. He has led a team of two helicopters that have conducted search-and-rescue missions, supply drops and general support. The deployment is in response to an emergency management assistance compact request from Texas to Nebraska. "Minnesota stands ready to assist in any way we can".

This weekend's deployment will include part-time guardsmen from across Arkansas, and it could extend up to 30 days, according to news release from Gov. Asa Hutchinson. "We're proud of those families too".

Friday, approximately 27 personnel from the 38th Infantry Division Mobile Command Group were sent to Texas. "This is a core competency of the National Guard".

The 1,500 soldiers will join the 15 members for the Arkansas National Guard's 61st Civil Support Team that left on Monday.

"Our thoughts are with the residents of Texas and all those impacted as they cope with the after effects of this devastating storm", said Governor Tom Wolf.

Eight of the soldiers and both helicopters are based in Davenport.

"It's been very rewarding to know we're helping our own people in their time of need", he said.
