A 3-month-old baby killer whale died Monday at a SeaWorld park in San Antonio, Texas, the park announced this week. Veterinarians and SeaWorld staff spent three days giving Kyara critical care, but officials said her health continued to decline. "From late evenings to early morning, no matter what, we devote our lives to these creatures, and this misfortune will be felt all through the whole SeaWorld family".

Kyara is shown with her mother Takara, who was born at SeaWorld San Diego in July 1991.

As per the recreation center, the whale's ailment was not caused by being in imprisonment.

A veterinary team will conduct a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.

Kyara, a three-month-old orca calf, the last to be born in captivity at a SeaWorld facility, died on Monday after "serious and progressive health issues", the company said in a statement on Monday. Kyara and Takara are pictured here.

"Additionally, the team was hand-feeding her in an effort to ensure she received the nutrition she needed". The company still has almost two dozen killer whales between these two parks and its location in Orlando, Fla., a SeaWorld spokesman told NPR's Amy Held earlier this year. Tilikum died in January.

SeaWorld also has made a decision to phase out its world-famous killer whale performances by 2019, after public opinion turned against keeping orcas, dolphins and other animals in captivity for entertainment.

Kyara was conceived before SeaWorld shuttered its orca breeding program in March 2016.

Kyara was the last orca whale to be born at a SeaWorld park.

It plans to phase out its reputed live orca performances by 2019, especially after scrutiny was intensified by the 2013 documentary "Blackfish".

SeaWorld has 22 orcas left in the U.S. The youngest, Amaya, was born in December 2014.
