Sean Spicer Is Reportedly Leaving The Briefing Room

Senate judiciary probe may review obstruction of justice

The White House is mulling a new role for White House press secretary Sean Spicer that would take him away from the podium and into a different role inside the West Wing, a White House official said Monday.

Among the harshest critics of Monday's decision were CNN anchors Wolf Blitzer, who told viewers "normally we'd be airing the White House press briefing. but unfortunately we're not allowed to show it to you live", and Jim Acosta, who tweeted a photo of his socks in lieu of a picture of Spicer during the gaggle. "The White House. And it's just, it's freaky", Acosta continued, seeming stunned. Spicer has become a household name for his combative press briefings, but they have become less frequent recently.

"And it just feels like we're sort of slowly but surely being dragged into what is a new normal in this country where the president of the United States is allowed to insulate himself from answering hard questions". Spicer and Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders have continued to hold briefings, but they have on occasion prohibited cameras.

The changes will begin to roll out in the near future, the White House indicated.

Acosta said the White House is "stonewalling" and called the situation "bizarre".

White House press secretary Sean Spicer is leading a search for his own replacement at the briefing room podium as part of a larger plan to shake up the White House communications operations, according to two people with knowledge of the effort.

"I don't understand why we covered that gaggle today, quite honestly, Brooke", Acosta said. "Sean is indispensable and I think the president knows that".

When asked when the Trump administration would release a statement about the recordings, Spicer stated, "So it's possible that we have an answer to that by the end of this week".
