Heavyweight boxing champ Deontay Wilder was arrested for marijuana possession Wednesday in Tuscaloosa. Wilder, 31, was initially stopped for a window tint violation.

Police spokeswoman Lt. Teena Richardson said Wilder was pulled over for a tint violation.

Deontay Wilder retains heavyweight title.

"Officers obtained verbal consent to search the vehicle and recovered a misdemeanor amount of marijuana from the console", Tuscaloosa Police said in a statement.

Paul Patterson - Wilder's attorney, continued by explaining that Wilder had been out of state recently visiting Georgia, in which he was driving his Rolls Royce whilst the vehicle in question - his Cadillac, had been at home amongst Wilder's fleet of other cars.

The 32-year-old, who is undefeated and has enjoyed 37 stoppages in his 38 bouts, was charged with second-degree possession of marijuana and later released on bond of $1000. When officers approached the vehicle, they reportedly smelled marijuana coming from inside the Escalade.

Wilder was never booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail on the misdemeanor charge, but instead, bonded out at the Tuscaloosa Police Headquarters.

Wilder has several friends and associates who had access to the Escalade when he was out of town, Patterson said.

The only time Wilder was forced to win a fight by decision was back on January 17, 2015, when he fought Bermane Stiverne.

The 6-foot-7-inch (2-meter) fighter is the World Boxing Council heavyweight champion.
