Kane silences Scotland's celebration with late leveller

Harry Kane marked his first game as captain with a stoppage-time equaliser as England denied Scotland a famous victory in Saturday's 2-2 World Cup qualifying draw in Glasgow.

But Leigh Griffiths broke his global duck in sensational fashion as he curled home a 25-yard free-kick in the 87th minute - and then repeated the feat three minutes later. We know how good this England side are.

"No matter what everyone thinks of us as a group of players, you can't question their personality, character and commitment. We wanted to come here and win, but given the narrative of the game we have got to be pleased in the end to take a point".

"To score two goals that late in the game we just have to see the game out but it was a poor pass when it was three on one in the attack and they put the ball in the box for a great finish from Harry Kane".

The result kept England top of UEFA qualifying Group F, while Scotland remain fourth.

But after March's last-gasp 1-0 win over Slovenia, this was another display to nourish hope of a first major tournament appearance since the 1998 World Cup.

"That was the one, at 60 years old, that could have been the best result of my footballing career", Strachan said.

"To do what they did was phenomenal". And they keep coming back again.

"It was like watching a heavyweight boxer against a middleweight". Scotland have not beaten England since 1999.

"I think it is a huge moment for the team".

However, Scotland 'keeper Craig Gordon really should've done better, palming the shot straight into the back of his own net.

But Scotland posed a threat on the break, Andrew Robertson spurning a sight of goal by slicing over from Griffiths's cut-back and Stuart Armstrong curling off-target.

Arsenal's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had given the Three Lions a seventieth minute lead from close range.

It was Griffiths's first Scotland goal and the first England had conceded in the campaign. However, Kane soon cushioned a volley home following Raheem Sterling's deep cross.
