Courage and self-sacrifice of those who took a stand against London terrorists

A man is helped away from the scene of the London Bridge massacre by two police officers

Larner is being called the Lion of London Bridge for his response and there is already a petition to award him the George Cross, which is the highest civilian award for bravery given to civilians.

He fearlessly shouted back and fought them alone, saving countless lives and allowing others to escape in the process. "I thought, 'I need to take the p-- out of these b--ers'".

"Like an idiot I shouted back at them. It happened in about 45 seconds and as I've got them out they've been shot around me".

'It was just me, trying to grab them with my bare hands and hold on. Everyone else ran to the back.

The Peckham resident told the Sun he was knifed in the head, chest and both hands by the terrorists, now known to be Khuram Butt, Rachid Redouane and Youssef Zaghba. You just try and stop them coming in.

As well as doing absolute wonders for Millwall's PR, Roy has also offered a helping hand to Piers Morgan once he gets out of hospital. There was blood everywhere.

"They were saying, 'Islam, Islam!'".

He said: "It was a madness time, best thing was keeping them around me".

"Luckily, none of the blows were straight at me or I'd be dead".

He has already been nicknamed the "Lion of London Bridge" - a reference to Millwall FC's lion mascot.

Millwall and their fans have always been associated with a siege-mentality, hence the chant "No one likes us, we don't care", which originated in the 1970s. It's incredible how much attention his bravery has got, especially because of the bad press Millwall fans get.

A friend of Larner's made a pitch for financial support on the crowdfunding page, JustGiving.

'You don't know who they are.

The attackers attacked at Larner which left wounds all over his body.

"I didn't think of my safety at the time", he added. "I'd had four or five pints - nothing major", he said. I'd been sliced up all over.

"I can handle myself". A spokesman for the club said: "Millwall Football Club wishes to commend Roy Larner for his vast bravery in incredibly terrifying circumstances, and indeed all other members of the public whose actions helped to save others". The front cover headline reads: "Learn to run".
