North Dakota Severe Weather Awareness Week

Higher levels of precipitable water a measure of moisture in inches will help strong thunderstorms develop

The National Weather Service (NWS) held their first storm spotter training session Wednesday evening at the Peter White Public Library in Marquette.

All modes of severe weather are possible, with an emphasis on damaging winds and isolated tornadoes. The environment could support strong to severe thunderstorms Friday through Sunday.

Update 6:15 a.m. Wednesday: The Tulsa area received about three-fourths of an inch to 1 1/4 inches of rain overnight, with northern parts of the county experiencing more rainfall than southern parts. Expect highs in the mid-80s with a partly cloudy sky.

A cold front is expected to move into East Texas on Wednesday afternoon.

Saturday will see an 80 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms and a high near 73.

The Storm Prediction Center in Norman says the storm system could produce multiple rounds of severe weather on Friday and Saturday.

Before reaching the Plains, the storm will spread snow over the Rocky Mountains and kick up strong winds, blowing dust and the fire danger over the Desert Southwest. A few neighbourhoods may be hit quite hard as flash floods on account of violent storms may be the highlight of the weekend weather wise. Most of the storms will exit east Alabama by the early afternoon, and weather conditions will improve dramatically for the afternoon.

The big weather talker today besides temperatures cooling off today along the lakeshore will be a threat of showers and thunderstorms tonight.

Winds will be powerful out of the north at around 20 to 25 miles per hour. The cold front will bring an end to any/all severe weather threats by mid-morning on Sunday (around 9a).

More rain is possible Thursday night, Friday night and Saturday, forecasters said.
