Pa. cops hit Cleveland Facebook killer's fleeing vehicle to stop him

The search for murder suspect Steve Stephens put authorities in surrounding states on the lookout.

According to employees at the restaurant, Stephens ordered a 20-piece McNuggets and a large order of fries in the drive-thru. The manager said employees tried to stall Stephens by telling him the fries weren't ready, but he took the chicken and drove away.

Pennsylvania State Police say Steve Stephens was spotted Tuesday morning in Erie County, PA. Stephens stopped and officers approached his vehicle, at which point Stephens shot himself.

After a brief, 2-mile traffic pursuit, Stephens pulled out a handgun and killed himself, Reed said.

Stephens allegedly filmed himself committing the murder and published the video on Facebook along with another video in which he claims to have previously murdered an additional 13 people. In this case, we did not receive a report about the first video, and we only received a report about the second video - containing the shooting - more than an hour and 45 minutes after it was posted. Zuckerberg spoke out a mere hour after Stephens committed suicide in Erie, Pennsylvania.

On Sunday, Stephens uploaded three videos to Facebook. "Period", Cleveland's police chief said.

Stephens was spotted at a nearby McDonald's by a resident who recognized his vehicle, Cleveland police said.

Gail Wheeler, of Erie, said she was stopped at a light at the McDonald's when Stephens came "whipping out" of the parking lot, almost hitting her.

On his Facebook page and using the live feature, Stephens bragged about killing 14 other people, though Cleveland police said they weren't aware of other victims at the time. Godwin did not seem to recognize the name.

"I wanted to see him go to trial, because it was God-awful what he did to my brother", she said.

Police later located him by a cellphone ping.

Photos of Stephens flashed on digital billboards -- from CT to California -- asking anyone with information about Stephens' whereabouts to call the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
